About the Kosten Foundation
Founded in June 2003 shortly after the death of Herb Kosten, the Herb Kosten Pancreatic Cancer Research Charitable Fund, provides needed funds for the continued efforts to research and find a cure for pancreatic cancer. When faced with his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Herb visited the leading oncology clinics in the country. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this lethal disease. He faced his illness with great dignity and courage. This has inspired us to work towards providing funds to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.
In 2006 the Herb Kosten Pancreatic Cancer Research Charitable Fund established a working relationship with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Stephen Behrman, M. D. was selected to direct the UTHSC Herb Kosten Pancreatic Cancer Support Endowment. Dr. Behrman has put to good use the funds we have raised through several tennis tournaments. He has established a support group for patients with pancreatic cancer and their families that meets monthly. Annually for the past several years he has recruited nationally recognized leaders in pancreatic cancer research to headline symposiums on the subject. Dr. Behrman is also supporting fellowship training for future pancreatic cancer surgeons and he is continuing his own research in the treatment of pancreatic cancer.
